My next race is the Akron Half Marathon on September 29th. I can’t say enough positive things about the Akron race experience. I’ve run this race twice, in 2010 and 2011 and both race experiences were excellent. First, every runner should run a race with a stadium finish at some point in their lives. Akron finishes in the Canal Park Stadium, home to the minor league baseball team, the Akron Aeros. Coming in to the finish you get the feeling, however brief, that you are a major league athlete coming out to be greeted by your adoring fans. Second, the race director in Akron greets and shakes the hand of every runner that crosses the finish line. For a race field of thousands, that’s a lot of handshaking and gives this race a great small town feel. And last, but not least, Akron has more hills than I ever could have imagined BUT this year the half and full courses have been redesigned to be more friendly to little-old-average-runner-me and some of those killer hills have been eliminated. I’m excited to run the flatter route and to be back in Akron for a third year. Want to join me? Check out the link to the right.
